When using your camera on a tripod, it may shake mildly when the shutter is released because the camera must move its internal mirror to take a picture. Most professional cameras have a feature known as "Mirror Lock-Up" that locks the mirror until the camera stops shaking before taking a picture. Normally you must press the shutter release button twice – first to lock the mirror and second to actually take the picture. Promote Control can do both steps automatically with a configurable delay between locking the mirror and taking the picture.
"Mirror Lock-Up" is also known as "M-Up" or "MLU". The Promote Control display has an "MLU" setting to facilitate activation and deactivation of this feature. The "MLU" setting is not available in select operation modes.
Not all cameras support "Mirror Lock-Up". Promote Control cannot use its "Mirror Lock-Up" feature with these cameras. Check your camera manual to determine if your camera supports "Mirror Lock-Up". Some cameras may support Mirror Lock-Up only for the purpose of sensor cleaning. Promote Control Mirror Lock-Up feature is incompatible with the Mirror Lock-Up that is intended for sensor cleaning.
Using "Mirror Lock-Up" with Promote Control requires an optional shutter cable. See Connections section for more information on connecting a shutter cable.
Observe the following workflow when using the "Mirror Lock-Up" feature:
1.Connect your camera as described in the Connections section. If you never used a shutter cable before, do not forget to tell Promote Control you are using the shutter cable, as described on that same page.
2.Turn on your camera and enable the camera’s "Mirror Lock-Up" feature. See your camera manual for details on enabling this feature.
3.Press the Promote Control "Power" button to turn it on.
4.Promote Control will attempt to check if camera has its Mirror Lock-Up enabled, and will reflect it in its own "MLU" setting found on the bottom of the Promote Control screen. Note that you may disable Promote Control from doing this check, and you will then have to manually control the "MLU" setting on the Promote Control. See Setup Menu section for more information on the Enable camera settings check/sync Setup setting.
If the "MLU" setting displays "N/A", it means the "Mirror Lock-Up" functionality is not available with the current mode and settings. If the Promote Control "MLU" setting reads "N/A", please make sure your camera has Mirror Lock-Up feature disabled, as it may affect correct Promote Control functionality.
5.Configure the rest of Promote Control operation as described in the appropriate chapters of this manual.
6.Press the "Start" button on the Promote Control. This instructs the camera to lock the mirror and wait a pre-defined time interval before actually taking the picture. The mirror lock interval may be configured using the "Mirror Lock-Up delay" in the Setup Menu.
Using "Mirror Lock-Up" functionality in the Manual Hold mode differs from the rest.
1.Press the "Start" button on Promote Control to lock the mirror.
2.Wait for a few seconds to let the camera stop shaking.
3.Press the "Start" button again to take the picture.
