Performing a Firmware Update

The Promote Control internal software (also known as "firmware") may be updated from a personal computer. This allows Promote Control to add the latest functionality updates and work with the most recent camera models.

Firmware update is an advanced procedure that should be performed with care. An incorrect firmware update can render the Promote Control non-functional until a valid firmware is installed.

Before updating Promote Control firmware, check if you already have the newest version installed. To check the version of your Promote Control firmware, press both side arrows at the same time to enter Setup Mode, and then press the left arrow to display the firmware version in use.

Use the following workflow to update the Promote Control firmware:

1.Download the latest firmware update file from http://www.promotesystems.com/

2.Download the latest version of the Promote Control firmware update application for your computer from http://www.promotesystems.com/ and install it on your computer. Firmware Update applications are available for both PC and Mac computers.

3.Install a fresh set of batteries in Promote Control and/or connect an optional AC adapter.

4.IMPORTANT! Make sure Promote Control is turned off before proceeding to the next step. Also make sure to leave it turned off until the update is completed.

5.Connect Promote Control to the computer using the supplied white USB cable while holding down the "Mode" button on the Promote Control. The Promote Control display will remain empty.

6.If the Promote Control display shows a mode settings screen after connection, disconnect it from the computer, power down the Promote Control, and then connect it again as described in the step above.

7.Launch the Promote Control firmware update application.

8.Select the firmware update file downloaded in Step 1.

9.Click the "Update" button in the firmware update application to start the firmware update. This process will take a few moments. Do not close the firmware update application, do not reboot or power off your computer, and do

10.not disconnect Promote Control from the computer until the update is finished.

11.After the firmware update has finished, disconnect Promote Control from the computer.

Promote Control will try to keep previously configured settings and apply them to the new version of the firmware where possible. To restore all configurable settings to their default values please refer to Reset to defaults setting in the Setup menu section.

DO NOT disconnect and DO NOT operate Promote Control and/or your computer while the firmware update is in progress. Doing so may render Promote Control non-functional until a valid and complete firmware update is performed.
